Just Myself To Blame

from Cat With A Spider by Guy Johnson

/

about

I wrote this song three and a half years ago. It is about a friend of mine who was going out with a woman who I would call “high maintenance.” After the initial euphoria of a new romance had worn off, she would forever tell him how useless he was compared to her previous boyfriends and how he did everything wrong. I put myself into his situation but without the emotional attachment and came up with this song on his behalf. It has a nice country twist at the end.

lyrics

Just Myself To Blame
Words & Music
GUY JOHNSON

I’ve broken every rule
I’ve been quite a fool
And I got just myself to blame
I’ll pick up all the pieces
I’m the one with all the weakness
I just had to spoil the game

Win or lose the time is right
We made a choice
It’s time to say goodbye
Au revoir Auf Wiedersehen my love

Go home and tell your Mama
You’ve left your lousy lover
I will hang my head in shame
You say I’m mean and selfish
Don’t think that I can help it
I got just myself to blame

For what it’s worth
You can be sure
We found the key to open up the door
We’ll hit a road we’ve never been before

Just one thing before you go
How I will survive you’ll never know

Guess I’ll just keep on living
Aware of what I’m missing
I got just myself to blame
I’ll do and please just what I like
I’ll stay at home or go out for the night
With all my friends I haven’t seen a while
I might be getting older
But this weight is off my shoulder
I got just myself to blame
